Movie Theaters: Officially Not Dead
The box office results are in and movie theaters are officially back and thriving!
A QUIET PLACE 2 and CRUELLA have crushed it, securing $57.4M and $27.3M respectively in their opening 4 days. I wouldn’t even have considered these to be massive blockbuster films like a Marvel or Bond flick, but yet they have succeeded immensely on the tail end of the Covid pandemic era. I think this is the clear cut sign we have been looking for that theaters are in fact here to stay. Throughout the entire pandemic, speculation ran unchecked around theaters future role in cinema. Many suggested that theaters would be a thing of the past and everything would pivot to streaming. Well boy have those people been proved wrong!
This makes me so happy knowing that the anti-theater speculation was wildly incorrect. The proponents of this stance drastically underestimated people’s desire to engage in shared experiences outside the comfort of our homes. That was the original point of the movies and it will continue to be for years to come.
Anyway, enjoy the holiday weekend, and if you don’t have plans yet, pay a visit to your local theater and get in on the excitement.
