My Return to Theaters
This past Saturday I made my first trip back to a movie theater since the start of the pandemic, and I could not have been happier with the experience.
I had nothing going on this weekend so I decided to catch a Saturday afternoon showing of THOSE WHO WISH ME DEAD at the Landmark Theatre on Pico. The experience did not disappoint. I found myself getting excited/nostalgic simply taking the escalator up to the main lobby floor where the smell of buttered popcorn wafted through the air. I procured my popcorn and large water and made my way to theater 2. Now since there are still social distancing guidelines in place, you must select your seat in advance of the screening. I personally enjoyed this, since it lead to me having an amazing seat in the center of the theater, with a buffer zone of empty seats around me. I was free to kick back and enjoy the experience. I realized just how much I missed previews also. The instinctual film critic comes out of every one of us during them as we get to pass judgment on each of the films based on their brief trailers. I saw some good and some bad, but either way I was excited to be seeing any at all. One old man in the front of the theater even clapped at the start of each trailer! He was that excited to be supporting film.
As for the movie itself, I thought THOSE WHO WISH ME DEAD was an excellent thriller and the perfect return to theaters experience. It was filled with unbelievable action sequences and moments of violence that were made for the big screen. While some of the dialogue was contrived in places, I thought the story was incredibly compelling and the star studded cast really pulled you in to it. I would recommend the film to anyone thinking about making the trip back into theaters. It was worth the price of admission.
