A Soderbergh Period Piece / Crime Drama? Sign Me the Hell Up!
Holy shit, do I have high expectations for this. If the Ocean’s franchise taught us anything, it’s that Soderbergh can bring the heat when it comes to crime flicks, and I doubt NO SUDDEN MOVE will be any different in terms of quality.
A teaser for the flick was recently dropped and it looks incredible based on cast alone. You got Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, and David Harbour starring. Impressive already. Then you move on to some of the supporting cast and you get Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Noah Jupe, Craig muMs Grant, Julia Fox, Frankie Shaw and Bill Duke. I mean this is as stacked as they come. After all, what crime movie is complete without Ray Liotta?
The film is set in 1950’s Detroit, a world and setting I know absolutely nothing about, but I imagine will be so immersive and compelling on screen. I can picture the fedora detective hats and long trench coats already. Within this unique world, we then follow a group of criminals on a failed heist attempt and on their subsequent quest to find out who hired them for the doomed endeavor.
The film is gonna have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 18th and will be subsequently released on HBO Max July 1st. I will most certainly be checking it out, as should you.
